Carolina Core saw off Huntsville City 2-0 in MLS Next Pro on Friday night, securing their first victory in the group stage after a run of defeats. The hosts opened the scoring just five minutes in when N. Evers found the net, and T. Raimbault doubled the advantage before half-time. By then the visitors were already on the back foot, having seen M. Caicedo booked in the eleventh minute.
Evers' strike came from a quick counter, and Raimbault's goal in the forty-fourth minute gave Carolina Core breathing room before the break. The visitors responded with changes at half-time, bringing on M. Molina for the first substitution. To be fair, Huntsville City pushed for an equaliser, though their shots lacked precision.
The second half saw both sides make tactical adjustments, with C. Orbaugh and M. Caicedo both replaced by the fifty-eighth minute. Raimbault himself came off in the sixty-eighth hour, replaced by Z. Yanez, while Huntsville City's B. Swinehart and X. Aguilar joined the fray. And here's the thing — the visitors had more attacks but couldn't convert them.
Statistics tell a mixed story. Both teams held fifty per cent possession, but Huntsville City registered more attacks at 114 compared to Carolina Core's 104. The hosts had more shots off target at eleven, while the visitors were more accurate with four on target from four attempts. Corners favoured the hosts five to three.
N. Prince's dismissal in the ninetieth minute meant Huntsville City finished with ten men, after the defender received a second yellow card. N. Kaloukian picked up a yellow card in stoppage time as the visitors tried to salvage something. The result moves Carolina Core off the bottom of the table, while Huntsville City remain sixth with thirty-eight points.
