Voluntari and Oțelul played out a 2:2 draw in Liga I's seventh round at Stadionul Anghel Iordănescu on Friday afternoon. The visitors took the lead early before the hosts clawed their way back into the contest, only for Pedro Nuno's penalty to salvage a point for Oțelul late on.
Remus Guțea opened the scoring for Voluntari in the third minute, but Patrick Fernandes equalised for the away side just three minutes later. Guțea restored his side's advantage at the 14-minute mark before a penalty from Pedro Nuno at 72 minutes ensured the match ended level.
Voluntari dominated the statistical battle, claiming 58% of possession and creating seven big chances compared to Oțelul's two. The hosts registered six shots on target with 33% accuracy, while their opponents managed only three attempts on target at 20% accuracy. Voluntari also completed 302 passes against 433 for Oțelul, who controlled 58% of the ball.
Both sides made several changes through the second half. Voluntari brought on Matej Mamić at 56 minutes and then made two more substitutions at 66 minutes. Oțelul introduced Miguel Silva at 68 minutes before Denis Haruț received a yellow card for the hosts at 70 minutes.
The result leaves Voluntari 15th in the table with five points from seven games, while Oțelul sit eighth with ten points. The home side have lost four of their seven matches, including a heavy 4:0 defeat to Dinamo București earlier this month. Oțelul have shown more consistency with only one loss across their opening seven fixtures.
