Fort Lauderdale hosted Crown Legacy in the MLS Next Pro Group Stage on 7th August, losing 0:2 to the league leaders. The result extends Crown Legacy's unbeaten run to eight matches and leaves Fort Lauderdale still searching for their first draw of the season.
The visitors took control early. A. Subotic opened the scoring in the 44th minute, before W. Sangoquiza extended the lead shortly after half-time in the 60th minute. By then Fort Lauderdale had already picked up two bookings, with L. Garcia and H. Mbongue both cautioned.
And here's the thing about the statistics: Fort Lauderdale enjoyed 56 per cent possession and registered 79 attacks compared to 96 for the visitors, yet managed only three shots on target. Crown Legacy were more efficient, converting 25 per cent of their attempts compared to 15 per cent for the hosts.
Fort Lauderdale's recent form says it all. They have won just four of their 26 matches this season, with 22 defeats already logged. The visitors, meanwhile, sit top with 54 points, having claimed 19 victories from the same number of games.
The result tightens things up for Fort Lauderdale's chances of reaching the playoffs. Crown Legacy, on the other hand, have put the game to bed early in terms of their ambitions for this campaign, extending their lead at the summit of the table.
