Olimpia moved up to the top of the National League with a 3-1 win over Huitzilapa in the second round of the Apertura. The visitors took control early and never looked back, extending their unbeaten run to six matches. Huitzilapa, meanwhile, remain rooted to 11th place with just three points from six games.
J. Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and E. Rodriguez doubled the advantage before half-time. Olimpia led 2-0 at the break and continued to press. Huitzilapa pulled one back through J. Rochez in the 77th minute, but the reply was short-lived — Rochez himself was shown a second yellow and sent off in the 88th minute.
Olimpia sealed the result with a late goal in the 90+6th minute. The visitors had more quality in front of goal, hitting the target seven times compared to the hosts' solitary attempt. Huitzilapa dominated possession at 54 per cent but couldn't convert it into chances.
The statistics tell the story. Olimpia registered 61 attacks and took three corners, while Huitzilapa managed 77 attacks and 14 corners yet could only find the target once. Both sides kept clean sheets until the late goals, and the yellow cards — five in total — suggest a heated encounter.
Olimpia now sit four points clear at the summit with 14 from six matches. Huitzilapa's defeat leaves them on the wrong side of the table with no draws to show for their efforts and a red card to add to the tally.
