Kalighat and Mezeres played out a 1-1 draw in the Calcutta Premier Division regular season on Thursday. A. Shajan opened the scoring in the 18th minute before R. Goldar equalised for the visitors 14 minutes later. The result keeps Kalighat rooted at the bottom of the table while Mezeres maintain their mid-table position.
Kalighat took the lead when Shajan found space to slot home in the 18th minute. The home side looked like they might hold on until Goldar responded to level matters before half-time. To be fair, neither side could find a winner despite creating enough to suggest one might come.
By then, Kalighat still sat in 23rd place with three points from ten games — no wins, three draws, seven defeats. Mezeres meanwhile occupied 13th spot with 14 points from three victories, five draws and two losses. The gap between them remains significant heading into the second half of the season.
Kalighat's recent form has been difficult to watch. They lost 3-0 to Calcutta Police on Wednesday, then went down 3-1 against Rainbow before that goalless draw with Coal India. This point does nothing to change the trajectory, though it shows they can compete at least for 90 minutes.
Mezeres have been more inconsistent. They fell 3-2 to Mohammedan on Wednesday after losing 2-0 to Aryan. But they had won 4-1 against Rainbow and shared a point with Coal India before that. The draw at Kalighat doesn't hurt their campaign, even if it doesn't help either.
