Karpaty defeated Kolos Kovalivka 2:0 at the Kolos Stadium in the Ukrainian Premier League's sixth round on Friday. The visitors took control early and saw out the match without conceding. And here's the thing — it was not a contest of endurance so much as efficiency.
Andriy Rusyn opened the scoring in the ninth minute. His finish settled the hosts down before they could settle themselves, and Karpaty never looked back. The ball found the net cleanly, and the momentum shifted immediately.
Julian Sery doubled the advantage in the twentieth minute. By then Kolos had grown frustrated, and their attacking structure began to unravel. The second goal arrived before half-time, and the visitors were running out of games to lose.
Kolos collected three yellow cards while Karpaty matched them. Baboglo, Chachua and Salabay went to the referee before Tahiri and Kostyshyn followed. Discipline broke down in midfield as the match progressed.
Kolos registered 106 attacks with 49 per cent possession but could not convert. They shot seven times on target and eight times off target across the ninety minutes. To be fair, possession does not guarantee chances.
Kolos sit fifteenth with two points from four matches. Karpaty occupy third place with ten points from five games. The result extends the visitors' position while Kolos remain without a victory this season.
