Kolos Kovalivka and Obolon Kyiv played out a goalless draw in the Premier League's fourth round at Kolos Stadium on Thursday. By then, both sides were already showing signs of the kind of season that rarely starts well. Kolos sat 16th with a single point from three games, while Obolon occupied 14th place on three points after four matches.
The opening half passed without much incident, though there was a substitution at 31 minutes when Obolon brought on Y. Morozko. A yellow card for D. Myshnyov at 35 minutes was the only disciplinary note before the break. To be fair, neither side created much, and the visitors had just one shot on target compared to their hosts' single attempt.
Things changed shape around the hour mark when Kolos made their first change, bringing on E. Kozik. Within two minutes, Obolon responded with two substitutions—Y. Klymchuk and S. Sukhanov entered the pitch. And here's the thing about these early-season matches: coaches tend to turn to the bench quickly when nothing is working.
More changes followed at 72 and 76 minutes as both managers shuffled their packs. A. Shulyanskyi and M. Chekh came on for Obolon, while I. Kane and A. Salabay replaced Kolos players. The only further card went to D. Ndukve at 79 minutes.
The statistics tell a story of mutual suspicion rather than attacking intent. Kolos controlled 55 per cent of possession and registered 83 attacks against Obolon's 77, yet neither side could find the net. There were four shots on target in total—two off target from each side—and six corners between them.
What this result means is simple enough. Kolos extended a run of three matches without victory, having lost to UCA, Dynamo Kyiv and Zorya Luhansk in their previous outings. Obolon added another point to their tally but did nothing to close the gap on the teams above them.
