Koninklijke HFC and Sparta Rotterdam II shared four points in a Tweede Divisie encounter that ended 2:2 on Saturday. The hosts had built a 2:0 lead through D. Giersthove and D. Hanzen before Sparta fought back. An own goal and a stoppage-time strike gave the visitors a point they might not have expected.
Giersthove opened the scoring in the 16th minute, giving Koninklijke the advantage they would maintain for most of the first half. Hanzen doubled the lead just before the break with a 45+2 goal that put the hosts in control. Sparta came out for the second period with purpose, though they would need to find a way through a disciplined defence.
The turning point came late on when Giersthove turned on his own side. His 89th-minute own goal reduced the deficit to one, and then Morgan struck at 90+4 to level matters. Things came to a head in the dying moments, with Sparta refusing to accept the draw without a fight.
Koninklijke registered 73 attacks against 63 for the visitors, while possession was split almost evenly at 49 per cent to 51. Both sides found the target eight times, though Sparta were more efficient with fewer shots off target. The hosts also earned six corners to five, a margin that reflected their territorial dominance.
Before this result, Sparta sat fourth with seven points from four games — two wins and a draw. Koninklijke remained in 13th place with four points, one victory and one defeat to their name. The result ended Sparta's momentum from their previous success and gave the hosts something to build on.
