Marconi Stallions and NWS Spirit played out a 1:1 draw in the New South Wales NPL regular season on Sunday at the main field at Marconi Stadium. The visitors took the lead before half-time, only for the hosts to equalise after the break. By then, both sides had already played their thirtieth match of the campaign.
NWS Spirit struck first, scoring in the tenth minute to take a slender advantage. Marconi Stallions responded, finding the net in the forty-third minute to level matters. There were no further goals, and the match finished with the points divided.
The result keeps Marconi Stallions in third place on 62 points from thirty games, with nineteen wins and six defeats. NWS Spirit remain seventh with 41 points, twelve victories and thirteen losses. The gap between them is twenty-one points, a margin that has not shifted on this occasion.
Marconi Stallions had entered the fixture on a two-match winning run, beating Sydney Olympic and Sutherland Sharks 1:0 each. NWS Spirit were also coming off a victory, a 1:0 win over SD Raiders on the previous Sunday.
The draw means neither side moves significantly in the table, though Marconi Stallions retain their position above the mid-table pack. NWS Spirit stay on the fringes of the top half, still chasing a better run of form.
