Metro Stars earn quarter-final spot with 2:0 victory over Croydon Kings
Metro Stars advanced to the NPL South Australia semi-finals after beating Croydon Kings 2:0 in their quarter-final clash on Friday night. The match was played at the hosts' ground in front of a supportive crowd. D. Niyonkuru was the man of the moment, netting twice to put the hosts in control.
His opener came in the 10th minute, and he doubled the lead with a second strike in the 30th. Goals were also logged at 11 minutes and 31 minutes during the match.
The result moves Metro Stars further clear in third place, where they sit on 44 points from 22 games. Croydon Kings remain sixth on 30 points, eight behind the hosts.
Metro Stars had already beaten Croydon Kings 2:0 on August 15, making this a double victory over their opponents in as many weeks. The hosts now have one foot in the next round.
The visitors will need to bounce back quickly, having lost two consecutive matches to the same side. Their form has dipped slightly, with three losses in their last five games. They will look to turn things around when they face Sturt Lions next week.
