Virtus Entella made light work of their Serie B fourth-round fixture at the Arena Garibaldi, dispatching host Pisa 4-1 on Friday evening. The visitors, who sat twelfth in the table with four points from three matches, took all three points and moved within two of their hosts.
Bernat Guiu gave the home side a dream start, firing past the keeper just two minutes in. But Entella responded with composure. Luigi Cuppone equalised in the thirty-second minute, and by then the match had shifted. Mehdi Léris saw red in the thirty-fifth, a decision that left Pisa chasing shadows for the remainder.
Andrea Franzoni restored the visitors' advantage before half-time, capitalising on a moment of hesitation from the ten men. Pisa brought on Matteo Tramoni, Simone Canestrelli, Andrea Petagna and Isak Vural at the interval, but the damage was done. Omar Correia pulled one back for the hosts in the seventy-third minute, only for M Tirelli to restore the two-goal cushion shortly after.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Pisa controlled possession at fifty per cent and registered more shots on target, but Entella created three big chances compared to the hosts' two. The visitors completed 547 passes against Pisa's 546, but it was their clinical edge that mattered. Shots accuracy of twenty-nine per cent for Entella against forty-three for Pisa says enough about who took their opportunities.
Pisa remain seventh with six points, having won three of their last five before this defeat. Entella move to five points and extend their unbeaten run to two matches. The result tightens the middle of the table, and Pisa cannot afford another slip if they are to push for promotion.
