Real España beat Honduras 2-0 in the National League's Apertura stage on Saturday evening. D. Sayago opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute before A. García added a late second after the break. The result keeps Real España unbeaten in six matches and extends their points advantage over their opponents.
Sayago's goal came from sustained pressure. Real España moved the ball into dangerous areas and Sayago finished clinically. By then Honduras had already shown they would dominate possession but struggle to create clear chances. The visitors controlled 52 per cent of the ball but could only manage two shots on target all evening.
Real España wasted little in front of goal. They registered ten shots on target and hit the target with precision. Things came to a head in the final minutes when García broke through to make it two. Honduras had attacked 65 times compared to their opponents' 57 but their efficiency remained questionable.
The second half brought several changes from both sides. J. Lacayo came on for Real España in the forty-sixth minute as the hosts sought to control the tempo. M. Aceituno and W. Martinez followed in the sixtieth and sixty-seventh minutes. Honduras made three changes of their own but could not find a way through.
Discipline was tested as the match progressed. A. Vargas received a yellow card for Real España in the forty-eighth minute while F. Sabillon and M. Pereira were booked for Honduras later. Three yellow cards for the visitors against one for the hosts showed where the pressure fell.
Real España now sit third in the table with fourteen points from six games. They have won four and drawn two without losing. Honduras remain fourth with ten points after three victories, one draw and two defeats. The gap between them widens as the season moves forward.
