Salmiapalloilijat beat JJK 2-1 in the Ykkönen group stage on Wednesday evening. The home side took the lead through K. Rintamaki in the twentieth minute, a moment that stuck in my memory long after the final whistle. JJK responded through O. Jakonen before S. Kadowaki's late goal settled the contest.
Rintamaki opened the scoring at the 20-minute mark, giving the hosts a cushion before half-time. Jakonen pulled one back for the visitors in the fifty-fifth, but SalmiPa held firm. Kadowaki made sure of the three points with an eightieth-ninth minute strike, leaving JJK chasing shadows.
There were five substitutions across the second half, with the home side bringing on Jalasvaara, Jokiniemi and Voca, while the visitors introduced Veikko and Miyazaki. Heimonen and Akdogan picked up yellow cards in the forty-fourth and seventy-eighth minutes respectively. By then, the tactical battle had settled into something more predictable.
SalmiPa dominated possession at 56 per cent and registered ten shots on target compared to JJK's two. The visitors won seven corners to three but could not convert their opportunities. It was a case of chances going begging for the away side, with their three shots off target doing little to trouble the defence.
The result keeps SalmiPa in third place on 36 points from 22 games, while JJK remain seventh with 31 points. The home side's recent form included heavy defeats, but this performance showed resilience. JJK's run of poor results continues, having lost three of their last five league matches.
