Skalica came from behind to beat Žilina 3-1 in the Superliga's third round on Sunday. The visitors overturned an early deficit to claim all three points at home soil.
L. Nonikashvili gave Žilina the lead in the third minute, but Skalica responded with composure. By then the visitors had settled into their rhythm, though the opening goal could have shifted momentum. To be fair, Žilina controlled possession but struggled to convert.
Skalica took the lead from a penalty in the 54th minute after M. Ryzek had drawn a yellow card in the 53rd. L. Simko doubled the advantage in the 63rd before M. Masik added a third in the 85th minute. Žilina made six substitutions throughout the second half, bringing on M. Gulisek, M. Roginic, F. Kosa, P. Ilko, and P. Onyedika among others.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Žilina held 72 per cent possession and registered 101 attacks, yet Skalica created more danger with just 53 attacks. The hosts managed six shots on target but scored only once, while Skalica converted four shots on target into three goals.
Žilina remain second in the table with 16 points from seven games, while Skalica sit eighth with eight points. The result extends Skalica's recent form, having won three of their last five matches, whereas Žilina have dropped points in two of their past seven encounters.
