Alistair William Johnston

Alistair William Johnston made his Celtic debut in the Old Firm derby against Rangers, on the day his transfer from CF Montréal was completed. John's University and Wake Forest, while turning out for Vaughan Azzurri in League1 Ontario.

Nashville SC drafted him 11th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, and he broke through there before being traded to CF Montréal in December 2021 for $1,000,000 in General Allocation Money, with Nashville keeping a sell-on percentage. At Montréal in 2022 he became a regular starter, contributing goals from right-back and getting his first taste of CONCACAF Champions League football.

Since arriving in Glasgow, Johnston has won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup on multiple occasions, and signed a contract extension in November 2024 that runs to 2029.

With Canada, Johnston has played at right-back through consecutive major tournaments. He played every group match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as Canada reached the last 16, then was named to the Team of the Tournament at the 2024 Copa América — the only player from outside South America to receive that recognition. At the 2026 World Cup he started in Canada's Round of 32 win over South Africa, helping the side reach the knockout stages for a second time in their history.
