About the player
Ben Vincent Hüning made the step up to the first team, and he had already lifted the Niederrhein Cup with the club in 2023 by the time he left for regular football at SC Wiedenbrück 2000. That move paid off: in the Regionalliga West he started week in, week out, playing 30 matches and adding a goal from the back. A year later Borussia Dortmund took note, and he spent two seasons with their reserve side, first in the 3. Liga and then, after relegation, in the Regionalliga West, where his form picked up further with four goals in 18 appearances. He also won the Premier League International Cup with Dortmund's U21s.
In January 2026, Hüning returned to Rot-Weiß Essen. He established himself as a key defender as RWE finished third in the 3. Liga and reached the promotion play-off against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Along the way, he scored in the semi-final away win over SSV Ulm, a goal that helped send Essen through. He started both legs of the final itself, though the club came up short, losing 2-0 on aggregate to Fürth.
