About the player
Dickson Abiama's route to German football began far from any academy: born in Lagos, he started his senior career at SpVgg Mögeldorf, where 27 goals in 28 appearances made the step up look inevitable. A season at sixth-tier SG Quelle Fürth and then fifth-tier SC Eltersdorf followed, and it was there that the numbers turned heads — 17 goals in 21 games were enough to bring SpVgg Greuther Fürth calling.
A 2. Bundesliga debut followed within the week. Across four seasons at the club he made 96 appearances and scored 13 goals.
A loan to TSV 1860 Munich in the 3. Liga brought him back among the goals, with 2 in 16 games, and it was another loan, to Rot-Weiß Essen in February 2026, that reset his career. He scored 6 goals in 14 3. Liga appearances for Essen in the 2025/26 season. Abiama holds dual Nigerian and German citizenship and had earlier ambitions of representing Nigeria, though no senior or youth international caps have followed for either country.
