Baltazar Costa Rodrigues de Oliveira

Baltazar Costa Rodrigues de Oliveira, known as Batata, came through the youth ranks at Vila Nova in his native Goiás, progressing from the Sub-15 side to the Sub-20 squad before making his senior debut in 2018. That same year he moved to FC Sion as part of a joint transfer alongside forward Philippe Almeida Costa, a deal reported at around 260,000 Swiss francs combined. He did not walk straight into the first team: his first two seasons in Switzerland were spent with the reserve side, FC Sion II, in the Promotion League and Challenge League, before he established himself at the senior level.

Batata has stayed at Sion ever since, extending his contract in 2021 and later signing on beyond that. He was part of the squad when the club dropped into the Challenge League for the 2023–24 season, and he featured as Sion won that division to return to the Super League at the first attempt. He has since passed 180 appearances for the club.

He has not yet earned a call-up to any Brazilian national team, at youth or senior level. He has not won an individual award, and although Sion carry a history in the Swiss Cup, that particular trophy has eluded him during his time at the club.
