About the player
Evan McLaughlin's move to Waterford, confirmed in December 2025 and effective from the turn of the year, brought him to a club he already knew from the opposite dugout — he scored on his senior debut for Derry City in a 2–0 win over Waterford back in July 2021. He stayed with Derry City through to the end of the 2023 season, with a loan spell at Coleraine in between that yielded a brace on his own debut for the Northern Irish club and three goals in twenty league appearances.
Signed on a free transfer at the end of 2023, McLaughlin made 34 league appearances and scored five goals in the 2024 season as Cork City won the League of Ireland First Division title and secured promotion to the Premier Division. His form that year earned him a place in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year.
