Pádraig Amond

Pádraig Amond came through the Shamrock Rovers academy from the age of ten and made his senior debut for the club at seventeen, against Athlone Town. He won the League of Ireland First Division there in 2006 and, two years later, was named the club's Young Player of the Year after finishing as top scorer with nine league goals. A move to Sligo Rovers in January 2010 brought the League of Ireland Cup and the FAI Cup in the same year, before a €65,000 transfer took him to Portugal's Paços de Ferreira.

His career turned on a loan to Accrington Stanley, which became permanent, and then a move to Morecambe, where he won the club's Golden Boot in 2013–14. The peak of his goalscoring came at Grimsby Town: in 2015–16 he scored 30 league goals in the National League, was named the division's top scorer and collected eight separate Player of the Year awards as Grimsby won the play-off final for promotion back into the Football League. Spells at Hartlepool United and then Newport County, where he stayed for five years, followed before a move to Woking.

Amond joined Waterford on a free transfer in January 2024 and was made club captain for the 2025 season. He marked his first year at the club with 16 goals in all competitions, including a hat-trick against Drogheda United, and was named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month in May 2024. He was capped four times by the Republic of Ireland U21s in 2008 and was included in the senior squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers in 2019. Away from football, he also played hurling for Carlow at minor level, competing under the name "Brendan Amond" to keep it separate from his football career.
