About the player
Iurie Iovu is the first Moldovan player to sign for Dundee United in the club's 116-year history. He arrived in June 2025 from NK Istra 1961 for a fee reported at around €200,000, on a two-year contract with an option for a further year.
Iovu came through Zimbru Chișinău's youth ranks before moving to Italy to join Cagliari's academy in 2018, where he stayed until 2022 without making a senior appearance. He then signed for Venezia on a free transfer, before a move to Istra 1961, where he made 24 appearances between 2023 and 2025. In January 2025 he joined Deportivo Alavés B on loan, playing 12 matches before the loan ended that June and he moved on to Dundee United.
At international level, Iovu made his senior debut for Moldova against Austria in November 2021, becoming the youngest player to represent the country in a competitive match since 2018. He has since earned four senior caps, adding to 18 appearances and one goal for the Moldova U21 side between 2021 and 2024, and three caps at U17 level.
Iovu has not won a major club title in his career to date.
