About the player
Neil Farrugia was born in Paris to an Irish mother and a French father. He came through the youth ranks at University College Dublin, making his senior bow there in 2017, before Shamrock Rovers signed him on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.
Over six seasons in Dublin he won four League of Ireland Premier Division titles in a row, between 2020 and 2023, and picked up the FAI Cup in 2019 after coming off the bench in the final. He added two FAI President's Cups, in 2022 and 2024.
His form for Rovers earned him youth caps for the Republic of Ireland, including a goal at both U19 and U21 level, and in May 2023 he was called into a senior training camp, though a first senior cap has not followed.
When his contract at Shamrock Rovers expired, Farrugia moved to England, joining Barnsley on a free transfer in January 2025 on a two-and-a-half-year deal. In January 2026, he switched to Dundee United for an undisclosed fee, signing a contract running to the summer of 2028. He made his debut for the club in February, starting as United beat Spartans 2–1 in the Scottish Cup.
