János Szabó

János Szabó has spent almost his entire career at one club. He came through the youth ranks at ASE Paks and Paksi SE before joining the Paksi FC senior squad in 2008, and aside from a short loan spell at BFC Siófok in the second half of the 2011–12 season, he has stayed there ever since, passing 390 league appearances for the club.

Szabó's development was recognised early: he was capped six times for Hungary's under-20 side and took bronze at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. His senior international career came later and stayed brief — a debut for Hungary in a 2–2 friendly draw with Denmark in May 2014, followed by five more caps before his last appearance in June 2018.

With Paks, Szabó has collected honours across more than a decade. The club won the Ligakupa in 2010–11, a season in which they also finished runners-up in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. More recently, he has been part of back-to-back Magyar Kupa triumphs, beating Ferencváros 2–0 in the 2023–24 final and then getting past the same opponents on penalties a year later. Paks were also runners-up in the Magyar Kupa in 2021–22 and finished second in the league again in 2023–24.

Alongside his first-team career, Szabó turned out for Paksi FC II in two separate spells, from 2007 to 2012 and again between 2020 and 2023, underlining how closely his career has stayed tied to the one club.
