Barra's blog said goodbye to João Miguel with a farewell piece the day after he left, calling him a "destaque" of the side. He had come through Barra's youth academy and made his professional debut with the under-20 side in the Copa Santa Catarina before working into the senior team, where he stayed registered for close to two years and made 28 appearances across the Série D, the Copa Santa Catarina and the Campeonato Catarinense.
The move to Athletic Club came as a loan for the rest of the 2025 Série B season, and rather than ending there it was extended in January until the close of the 2026 campaign, with an option to make the switch permanent built into the deal.
He was still tied to Barra when the Santa Catarina side won the Campeonato Catarinense in 2026, while his future was already being decided elsewhere. João Miguel has not been called up to the Brazilian national team at any level.
