About the player
Kevin Long left Cork City's academy for Burnley in January 2010 for a reported fee of £150,000, beginning a spell at Turf Moor that would run for thirteen years. That stretch was punctuated by a string of loans — three at Accrington Stanley, plus spells at Rochdale, Portsmouth, Barnsley and Milton Keynes Dons. The Barnsley loan brought a Football League Trophy final appearance in the 2015–16 season.
Long's route into senior football began at Cork City, where he won the FAI Youth Cup, Munster Youth Cup and FAI Futsal Cup in 2009 before making his first-team appearances. He won 17 caps for the Republic of Ireland between 2017 and 2020, having previously represented the country at U21 level. His one senior goal came against Bulgaria in September 2019.
After leaving Burnley in 2023, Long joined Birmingham City on a free transfer, staying just over a year before a move to Toronto FC in February 2024. His time in Major League Soccer ended when the club declined his contract option after the 2025 season. He has since joined Waterford, taking the number 13 shirt in March 2026.
