Lovro Štubljar

Lovro Štubljar came through the youth ranks at Kopa in Metlika before moving on to Krka and then Domžale, where he made his professional debut for the first team in the 2021/22 season. In June 2022 Empoli signed him for an undisclosed fee. He never played a senior match for the Tuscan club, spending his time there out on loan instead — first back at Domžale for the second half of the 2023/24 season, where he made 16 appearances, then split between Celje and Domžale in 2024/25.

At Celje, Štubljar made 10 league appearances and was part of the squad that won the Slovenian Cup in 2025, though his own involvement in that run was limited to a single match, an 8–0 win over Hodoš, and he did not feature in the final. In August 2025 he left Empoli for good, joining FC Groningen on a permanent deal that runs until June 2029. He has yet to make a competitive debut for his new club, sitting behind Etienne Vaessen and Hidde Jurjus in the pecking order, though he has featured in pre-season friendlies.

Internationally, Štubljar has moved steadily up through Slovenia's youth sides, from a single cap at U18 level to three at U19 and on to the U21s. He was second-choice goalkeeper for Slovenia's U21 side at the UEFA U21 Euro 2025 finals, then took over as first choice for the qualifying campaign for the 2027 edition, conceding 10 goals in six matches. He has not yet been capped by the senior national team.
