About the player
Wels had joined the Sturm academy at under-12 level. In 2021–22 he won the Austrian Central Regionalliga with Sturm Graz II. The following season he was part of the squad that won the Austrian Cup, beating SK Rapid Wien 2–0 in the final; Wels played in earlier rounds but was not involved on the day. His senior record at Sturm amounted to fewer than ten appearances and one goal.
He moved to FK Austria Wien on a free transfer in June 2023, signing until 2026 on a deal later extended to 2027, and went straight out on loan to SV Stripfing. He made 11 league appearances and four goals before he was recalled in December 2023. He returned to the Austria Wien senior squad for 2024–25 and made 12 league appearances.
He has yet to be capped by the senior side.
