About the player
Pablo García Ruiz did not arrive at Budapest Honvéd with a senior international cap or a marquee move behind him. The left-back's route ran through Deportivo Alavés's academy, instead going out on loan to CD Laredo, San Ignacio and CD Tropezón to accumulate minutes in Spain's lower divisions. A February 2022 match report from that spell places him on the scoresheet for Tropezón against Logroñés II in the Segunda División RFEF, a rare concrete marker in an otherwise quiet development.
The move that changed his path came in 2022, when Elche CF signed him for their reserve side. He made 28 appearances there before dropping back into the third tier with Arenas Club de Getxo in 2024. It was at Getxo that García became a genuine first-team fixture rather than a squad option.
That run of form was enough to persuade Budapest Honvéd to sign him once his contract in Spain expired. The Hungarian club announced the free transfer in June 2026. It is a move that takes García out of Spain's regional football for the first time and into a different league altogether, with the club evidently judging his Getxo output worth the gamble on a player still building his senior résumé.
