Rúben Filipe Gomes Pereira

A centre-back who stands 1.93m rarely goes unnoticed, and Rúben Pereira arrived at Académico de Viseu in the 2025/26 season, where he had already scored two appearances into the season.

The route there ran through several of Portugal's best-known youth setups. Pereira started at SC Espinho in his home town, moved into the FC Porto academy, and later turned out for the youth sides of Benfica and Boavista .

Instead, the professional career began in the fourth tier. At AD Sanjoanense , where he spent two seasons from 2019, Pereira was a central figure in the side that won the Campeonato de Portugal in 2020/21 and went up.

Three Segunda Liga matches was the extent of his first-team involvement across two years on the books; most of his football came with the reserve side at Pedras Salgadas. A loan to FC Trofense in 2022/23 gave him what Chaves had not — 15 matches in Liga 3, and two goals from defence.

His most substantial spell followed at FC Penafiel , signed in July 2023.

Viseu signed him in July 2025 on a two-year deal.
