About the player
Ryan Metu grew up playing for HS '88, GVAV-Rapiditas and GRC Groningen before joining the FC Groningen academy in 2020. The club signed him to his first professional contract in June 2023, timed to take effect from his fifteenth birthday, and by February 2026 he was making his Eredivisie debut, coming on in a 1-2 defeat to PSV.
He has since made eight Eredivisie appearances for Groningen in the 2025/2026 season, without yet opening his account for goals or assists, and has added a further appearance in the following campaign. He has also been capped twice by the Netherlands under-19 side.
In May 2026, with Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar both showing interest, Metu chose to stay in Groningen, signing a new contract that runs until the middle of 2029. The extension came before he had scored a senior goal.
