Sebastián Fernández

Sebastián Fernández arrived at Danubio in January 2022 and has since reached 176 appearances and 42 goals for the side. That tally sits alongside spells that took him well beyond Uruguay: after coming through at Miramar Misiones and Defensor Sporting, he moved to Argentina with Banfield, with whom he won the 2009 Apertura, and the move to Europe followed in 2010 when Málaga signed him. He spent three seasons in La Liga with the club, scoring 15 goals in 97 appearances, before a further year at Rayo Vallecano.

Fernández returned to Uruguay in 2014 to join Nacional, where he won four league titles, in 2014–15, 2016, 2019 and 2020, a Supercopa Uruguaya in 2019, and three Torneo Intermedio wins. He left the club in 2021 and, in an unusual detour, turned out for Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in the amateur Liga Universitaria, scoring twice on his debut there. He then had a season with Liverpool FC in Montevideo, scoring 8 goals in 30 appearances, before his move to Danubio.

At international level, Fernández won 14 caps for Uruguay between 2006 and 2012, scoring twice, and was part of the squad that finished fourth at the 2010 World Cup.
