Sebastián Javier Rodríguez Iriarte

Sebastián Rodríguez came through Danubio's youth ranks from the age of six and made his professional debut for the club in December 2010, before a move to Spain took him to UD Almería's reserve side. A spell in Switzerland with FC Locarno followed, then a return home with Liverpool FC, where he won a Campeonato Uruguayo title in 2016, back-to-back Torneo Intermedio wins in 2017 and 2018, and a place in Referí's ideal team of the Uruguayan championship in 2016.

His career then took him further afield still. A stint at Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz in Mexico ended in 2019, after which he joined Club Sport Emelec in Ecuador, where he was named to the ideal team of the Ecuadorian championship in both 2020 and 2021. A move to Peñarol brought another Uruguayan trophy, the Torneo Apertura, in 2023, before he crossed to Peru with Alianza Lima the following year.

The most disputed chapter of his career came in July 2025, when he joined Universidad de Chile from Montevideo City Torque. Reports on the terms of that transfer have varied widely, with figures quoted anywhere between US$150,000 and US$700,000, and some accounts describing it instead as a swap involving Gonzalo Montes. Whatever the mechanics, the move brought him a Supercopa de Chile winner's medal in 2025. His time in Santiago proved short-lived, though: his contract was terminated in January 2026, and he returned to Danubio, the club where it all began, as a free agent.

Rodríguez represented Uruguay at youth level, playing at the 2007 South American U-15 Championship and the 2009 South American U-17 Championship and World Cup, but has not earned a senior cap.
