Stavros Gavriel

Stavros Gavriel came through APOEL's academy in Nicosia, joining as a child in 2012 before making his first-team debut in November 2020, against Doxa. He went on to make 33 league appearances for the Cypriot club, scoring four goals, and spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Akritas Chlorakas, where he scored five goals in 32 matches.

His move away from APOEL, in January 2024, did not go smoothly. According to reports from the time, Gavriel turned down a new four-year contract from the club that would have quadrupled his wages, making clear he wanted to leave for Belgium instead. He then missed first-team training sessions, citing illness, and was moved to APOEL's second team and left out of the matchday squad before the transfer to Zulte Waregem was completed. APOEL retained a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

At Zulte Waregem, Gavriel became a regular fixture, making 59 appearances and scoring nine goals. The club won the Challenger Pro League in the 2024/25 season.

Gavriel earned his first call-up to Cyprus's senior national team in March 2024, for a friendly against Latvia, and has since featured in World Cup 2026 qualifying against Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as a friendly against Bulgaria.

In July 2026, Gavriel signed a three-year contract with Portuguese club Nacional, in Funchal.
