About the player
Ogiwara came through Urawa Red Diamonds' own academy, joining in 2012 and progressing through the youth ranks until his promotion to the first team in 2018, the same year he won the Emperor's Cup with the club. Rather than settling straight into the Urawa side, his career since has been built almost entirely on loans, a path that took him first to Albirex Niigata in the J2 League in 2020, then to Kyoto Sanga across 2021 and 2022, where he featured in both the second and top divisions.
The most eye-catching stretch of that loan spell came in Croatia. Signed by GNK Dinamo Zagreb in January 2023, Ogiwara remained there into the 2024–25 season and became a regular contributor in the UEFA Champions League, scoring against Bayern Munich in September 2024. He returned to Urawa in 2025, and was part of the squad that had finished as J1 League runners-up in 2023, before being loaned out again, this time to Belgian side Oud-Heverlee Leuven for the 2026 season.
At international level, the left-footed defender has represented Japan at youth level, featuring for the under-19 side at the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship, where the team took bronze, and adding a single appearance for the under-20s in 2019. He has not yet been capped by the senior national team.
By the end of the 2024 season, Ogiwara had made 62 appearances in Japan's top flight, split between Urawa and Kyoto, alongside 64 in the second division across his spells at Niigata and Kyoto.
