«Urawa Red Diamonds»
Saitama Stadium 2002 was built for a World Cup and kept for a club. Urawa Red Diamonds moved in as the local tenant.
The first name came from a factory. The side began in 1950 as the works team of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, based in Kobe, and moved to Urawa in 1958. The Red Diamonds tag is a reading of the Mitsubishi logo — three red diamonds — and the red and white kit follows from it. The club became Urawa Red Diamonds in February 1996.
One J1 League title, in 2006, sits alongside two J.League Cups and a run of Emperor's Cup wins that started in 1978 and then came in a cluster: 2005, 2006 and 2007, three seasons in a row.
It is in Asia that the club has been most consistent. The AFC Champions League has been won three times, in 2007, 2017 and 2022.
