Yokohama F. Marinos

The 2019 title came 15 years after the previous one. Three years later the club won again. Seven league titles now sit in the cabinet, four of them won before the J.League existed at all, when the team played as Nissan Motors — a works side founded by the car maker in 1972.

The letter in the name belongs to another club. Yokohama Flügels went under financially, and in 1999 what remained of it merged into Yokohama Marinos; the F stayed. The club continues to count 1972 as its own starting point and keeps every trophy won under the earlier names.

Those earlier names took most of the domestic cups. The Emperor's Cup came seven times, five of them before the merger, and in 1991 and 1992 the team won the Asian Cup Winners' Cup back to back.

Home is the Nissan Stadium , opened in 1998 and holding 72,327, though league fixtures are played to a slightly smaller figure. Before that the club used the Mitsuzawa football ground. Blue, white and red are the club colours, and the supporters took a second nickname from them: Tricolor.
