About the player
Jónsson came through the youth ranks at Þróttur Reykjavík before moving to Fjölnir, where he broke into senior football and stayed for six seasons, making 85 league appearances and scoring five goals across the 1. deild karla and Úrvalsdeild. That run earned him a move to Norway, where SK Brann signed him in March 2017. His time there was brief, and a loan to FH followed in 2018.
His most productive spell came at Sandefjord Fotball, whom he joined in January 2019. Across the OBOS-ligaen and Eliteserien he made 81 appearances and scored 14 goals, comfortably his best return at any club. In February 2022 he moved abroad again, this time to Hungary's Budapest Honvéd, where he made 28 appearances. A second, short stint at FH followed in August 2023 before he signed for HamKam later that same month.
At international level, Jónsson represented Iceland at under-19 level and went on to earn seven caps for the under-21 side in 2015 and 2016.
