About the player
Wilguens Paugain's route into professional football ran through three academies before a single senior appearance. Born in Thomazeau, Haiti, he moved to France as a child, joined AS Nomexy Vincey and then SAS Épinal, before spending years in the Nancy academy. He made only five appearances for the reserve side, Nancy II, in the Championnat National 3.
His career proper began abroad. A free transfer took him to Cypriot side Akritas Chlorakas, where he made 21 league appearances, then to Latvian club FK Auda for another 21-game season, and on to SKN St. Pölten in Austria.
Zulte Waregem took him on loan from St. Pölten in the early months of 2025, and after three appearances the Belgian club exercised the option to sign him permanently until 2028.
Internationally, Paugain first represented France at Under-18 level, but later switched allegiance to Haiti, making his senior debut in 2025. He has since won caps for the national team and was named in Haiti's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
