Banants Yerevan

Sarkis Israelyan, a businessman, put together a football club to represent Kotayk, the region around Abovyan, rather than the capital. It took the field in January 1992 and made the choice look sound straight away, winning the Armenian Cup outright and finishing third in the championship in that first season.

The run did not hold. Financial trouble forced a merger with Kotayk in 1995, and the club fell out of the top flight until 2001, when it was revived and moved from Abovyan to Yerevan. Two years later it merged with Spartak Yerevan.

The first league title arrived in 2013/14, two decades after that opening Cup win. The name Banants lasted until 1 August 2019, when the club became Urartu; the change altered the badge, not the legal entity behind it. Three years on, in 2022/23, it took the league and the Cup in the same season, the most successful campaign in its history.

Home games are played at Urartu Stadium, in Yerevan's Malatia-Sebastia district, built in 2008 and holding 4,860 people; before the rename it was known as Banants Stadium. The team plays in blue at home and white away, and its supporters have organised since 2010 as the Proud Eagles fan club.

The most recent line added to the record is a Cup final appearance in 2025/26.
