The 2016 Armenian Supercup put Alashkert against Ararat, and the club won it 1:0. The rivalry that shapes it, though, is with the rest of Yerevan's crowded football map.
Alashkert started in 1990 in Martuni, a town in the Gegharkunik province. In 1992 it entered the first Armenian championship, finished 24th and last, and withdrew from the competition. By 2000 the club had been dissolved altogether.
It stayed gone for eleven years. The businessman Bagrat Navoyan revived the side at the end of 2011, and within two seasons Alashkert had won the First Division and returned to the top flight. In February 2013 it left Martuni for Yerevan and bought the Nairi stadium, which now carries the club's own name — a modest ground of 6,850, with 1,850 seats.
The cup took longer.
The European breakthrough arrived in 2021–22, when Alashkert became the first Armenian club to reach the group stage of the UEFA Conference League.
