Basel's ice hockey history runs through St. Jakob, with the St. Jakob-Arena as home ground since it holds just over 6,600 people between seats and standing room.
The club dates to October 1932, and its honours belong almost entirely to that second tier: five Nationalliga B titles, won in 1935, 1941, 1956 and then again in 2003 and 2005. Two runner-up finishes in the Swiss Championship, in 1946 and 1952.
The lowest point came on 7 July 2014, when the senior team, then playing as EHC Basel Sharks, filed for bankruptcy. The parent club did not disappear with it. Under sportchef Olivier Schäublin, EHC Basel/Kleinhüningen rebuilt from the amateur leagues, and defenceman Marco Vogt stayed on as one of the few links between the old team and the one that fought its way back to the MySports League by the 2017/18 season.
