Birkirkara FC

Ta' Qali is the national stadium. The ground holds 16,997, of which 320 are VIP seats. Before that the club used the St Aloysius Sports and Recreational Complex.

The club itself came out of a merger. In December 1950 two sides from the town, Birkirkara United and Birkirkara Celtic, merged. United had been going since 1916, set up by Salvu Troisi, who had played for Hamrun Spartans and Floriana. There was a second experiment four decades on: in 1994 the club tied up with Luxol St Andrews and ran for two seasons as Birkirkara Luxol before the arrangement was dropped.

The first league title arrived in 1999–2000, and three more followed — 2005–06, 2009–10 and 2012–13. The trophy that reads differently is the FA Trophy of 2022–23, the club's sixth and the first in eight years. In between came a run of Super Cups: seven in all, five of them between 2002 and 2006.

European football has mostly been brief. The exception was the 2001–02 UEFA Cup, when Birkirkara drew 0-0 away at Lokomotiv Tbilisi and 1-1 at home, and went through on away goals to the second qualifying round.

Birkirkara were among the founding members of the European Club Association, the body that took over from the G-14.

Fabrice Ondoa, the Cameroon international goalkeeper, is on the books for the 2025–26 season. Andrea Zammit, who captained Malta's youth side, came back to the club in 2024, the same year Stefano De Angelis took charge. The Premier League and the FA Trophy are the season's business.
