Every South American youth cycle since 2004 has ended the same way for Brazil's under-20 women: a CONMEBOL title. Captain Vitória Amaral led that squad, with Vendito as top scorer and Rillary in goal.

The team's history is really the history of names it later handed to the senior side. Marta came through the under-20 ranks in 2004 and 2006, part of a production line that has since sent through Cristiane, Formiga, Geyse, Kerolin, Giovana Queiroz and Tarciane.

There is no separate founding to point to; the record begins with the first match, a 5–3 defeat to Mexico in Vancouver on 17 August 2002, at what was then the FIFA U-19 World Championship. What has followed regionally is closer to a monopoly than a rivalry — CONMEBOL gold in every tournament played since 2004 — while the world stage has been harder ground, yielding bronze in 2006 and again in 2022, but nothing higher yet.

Training happens away from any stadium crowd, at the Granja Comary complex in Teresópolis. On the pitch, the fixture that matters most is against Argentina.
