Colón is back in Primera Nacional, with the club still searching for a route back to where it spent most of its history. The red and black keep their grip on the city regardless of division.

For decades the club chased the top division without reaching it, and the breakthrough came in 1965, when winning the Campeonato de Primera B sent Colón into Argentina's first tier for the first time. It took until 2021 for the club to add a national championship to its name, beating Racing Club 3-0 in the final of the Copa de la Liga Profesional — the first official top-flight title in Colón's history, arriving 116 years after the club's founding on 5 May 1905.

Two years before that title, Colón had already gone further than expected on the continental stage, reaching the final of the 2019 Copa Sudamericana before losing 3-1 to Independiente del Valle. A Torneo Apertura runner-up finish in 1997 sits in the same category: close enough to remember, not close enough to count among the honours.

Home games are played at Estadio Brigadier General Estanislao López, with capacity commonly listed at 40,000, though older counts put the figure lower.

What the club has never managed, even after 2021, is to turn a single title into any sustained run at the top of Argentine football.
