Godoy Cruz

Godoy Cruz go into 2026 back in the second tier, Primera Nacional, after finishing 29th in the top flight last season and dropping down. Its cup record stays thinner — a semi-final in the Copa de la Liga Profesional in 2020/21, and a run to the last sixteen of the Copa Sudamericana on four separate occasions, most recently in 2025.

The name carries a merger. Club Sportivo Godoy Cruz took the field first, in the city of the same name in Mendoza province, but in 1930 it joined forces with Deportivo Bodega Antonio Tomba, a side founded by workers at a local winery in 1899. That union gave the club its full name, its blue and white colours, and the nickname that still sticks — Bodeguero, the winemaker. A second nickname, El Expreso, comes from the ground sitting close to the railway line.

That ground, Estadio Feliciano Gambarte, is known locally as La Bodega and holds 21,000. It reopened in July 2025 after reconstruction, with Alejandro Chapini presiding over the club at the time of the return. Godoy Cruz is a members' club in the fullest sense — more than 15,000 socios hold stakes in it.

Promotion has come twice through the same route. A Torneo del Interior title in 1994 lifted the club into the second division for the first time, and the 2005/06 Primera B Nacional, won with a final victory over Nueva Chicago, sent Godoy Cruz into the Argentine top flight for the first time in its history. The stay was not immediate: a relegation play-off loss to Huracán in 2007 sent the club back down within a year, but second place in 2007/08 brought an instant return. Locally, in the Liga Mendocina, the club has been champion nine times, most recently in 2012.
