Talleres Córdoba measures itself against Belgrano, the other big club in the city, in a fixture people there call El Clásico Cordobés. It has been played since 17 May 1914, and the record now leans Talleres' way — 96 wins to Belgrano's 77, with 88 draws between them.

The club's official birth date, 12 October 1913, is not quite the real one. It was formed on 4 October under the name Atlético Talleres Central Córdoba, but expulsion from the league in 1917 forced a rebrand to Club Atlético Talleres, and the later date was fixed to smooth the club's return to competition in 1918. The white and blue kit came from founder Thomas Lawson, who modelled the colours on Blackburn Rovers.

Only one international trophy sits in the cabinet: the Copa Conmebol of 1999, won under coach Ricardo Gareca , who a year earlier had already steered the club back into the top flight. Home games in the first division are played at Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, chosen over the club's own ground for the bigger crowd it can hold.

Financial trouble later pulled Talleres down to the third division, and from 2004 to 2014 the club was run not by elected officials but by outside administrators.

Nothing settles the rivalry with Belgrano like 1998. Talleres beat them on penalties that year in what fans still call La Final del Siglo, the Final of the Century, to win the Primera B Nacional and decide which of Córdoba's two clubs had the season that mattered.
