FC Anyang

The mountain pass between Anyang and Suwon gave the derby its name. Then Suwon Samsung Bluewings dropped into K League 2, and the Jijidae Derby became a fixture in the same division. There is an older grievance too, one that has nothing to do with geography: Anyang LG Cheetahs left the city in 2004 and became FC Seoul.

Those supporters are the reason the current club exists. A public vote in late December 2012 picked the name FC Anyang over Anyang City FC, and the club was founded on 2 February 2013. The supporter group A.S.U. RED carried across from the Cheetahs era; the trophies did not. The FA Cups of 1997 and 1998 belong to the entity that moved away.

Purple and white came from grapes, a local symbol, which is how a football club ends up nicknamed The Violets. Home is the Anyang Sports Complex, 17,143 seats.

Cho Gue-sung came through the club's academy by way of Anyang Technical High School and scored 14 in his debut season of 2019. He went on to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, then FC Midtjylland, and scored at the 2022 World Cup for South Korea.

Winning K League 2 in 2024 ended it, and Anyang played top-flight football in 2025 for the first time. Bruno Mota scored 14 that season.
