Mykola Kovtalyuk

Sambir was where Mykola Kovtalyuk started out. He turned professional at Poltava in 2014 and, within a year, had already moved abroad, to Slovakia's Zemplín Michalovce.

The following years took him through Arsenal Kyiv and Kolos Kovalivka before he settled, on and off, in Georgia. It was there that Kovtalyuk built his best spell as a goalscorer. At Dinamo Tbilisi he took silver in the 2017 championship, and after a move to Dila Gori he began scoring in numbers rarely matched in the Georgian league: 21 goals in the 2018 season, the second-highest total in the competition's history, earned him a place in that year's team of the season. He added the league's top scorer award in 2020, when Dila also finished with the bronze medal.

A brief stint at Anyang in South Korea in 2019 broke up his time in Georgia, and he later played in Kazakhstan for Akzhayik and Shakhter Karagandy before returning to Ukraine with Vorskla Poltava, with whom he reached the 2023/24 Ukrainian Cup final. A short second spell at Kolos Kovalivka followed in 2025 before he joined FC Botoșani as a free agent.

He opened his account for the Romanian club with a goal against CFR Cluj on 17 August 2025, converted in the 36th minute. His time there has not been without incident: in a later match against Unirea Slobozia, Kovtalyuk scored, but also put through his own net and was sent off for an elbow. He has never been called up to the Ukraine national team.
