FC Energetik-Bgu Minsk

Belarusian State University keeps its own sports complex in south-west Minsk, the Republican Centre for Olympic Training, and Energetik-BGU has made its home there, on a ground that holds 1,500 by one count and closer to 2,400 once the extra stands go up. The nickname, Students, comes from the university tie; an older one, the army men, points to a past link with the Military Academy that has since fallen out of use.

Founded in 1996, the club worked its way through the lower divisions and took the Second League, group A, in 1998, since a run to the Belarusian Cup semi-final in 2006 is as close as it has come to a trophy there. Vladimir Belyavsky, head coach from 2017 to 2022, took the side up to the Premier League twice, in 2019 and 2020, and oversaw its best league finish, tenth, in the second of those seasons.

The 2022 season brought second place in the Premier League, but the AFBF's disciplinary committee stripped the silver medals on 11 May 2023, citing match-fixing and improper financial incentives. Derby matches against FC Minsk, billed as the capital's own fixture, remain the closest thing the club has to a settled rivalry.
