Since that promotion the club has never dropped back down, the only team in the National League that can say so.

Debts of 3.2 million francs pushed the club toward bankruptcy in 2006, and on the ice there was a longer wait: five league finals lost — 1983, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2013 — before anything changed. It changed in the 2025–26 season, when Fribourg-Gottéron beat HC Davos in Game 7, Lucas Wallmark settling it in overtime in the 66th minute for the club's first National League title.

A Fribourg native drafted by the Minnesota Wild in 2004, he stayed with the club from 2002 through to the 2026 championship, wore the captaincy, and won 96 caps for Switzerland without ever needing to leave home to do it.

The team plays in blue for the city, black for the canton, under a dragon taken from Fribourg's coat of arms, at the BCF Arena, redone to 9,000 seats in 2020.
